Expeience of learning Vocabulary and Grammar

Posted in Enlish Pedagogy Class at 9:39 am by goestela

I think I am a very lucky person, I was never forced to learn any languages, I only learn them because I am intrested in them. I remember that I used to challenge my teacher to ask me questions, but right now I don’t have that gut to do so unless the teacher makes me feel safe.

Back in my learning experience in senior high, I think my senior high school English, Ann, did me a great favor, she taught the textbooks, explained the grammar and vocaulary in the text, and that’s all for the textbooks. Other than the textbooks, she played songs she loved and shared her life with us in English (without any question), asked us to keep English journals (Ann read them, and gave response, if possible, took notes in English as well, and gave an English joke or short article (related to the textbooks) to read.

I like her way of teching, it’s not that stressful for me and she often encouraged me to keep going, she sacrificed a lot of time for us, over all, she’s a mentor to me. I think I’ll combine her teaching style in to mine, but of couse, I’ll establish my own stylish way to teach^^.

This is john Wang from Japan, I like you story, because we share one similarity : learning English for personal interest. I also believe that English should not be perceived purely as knowledge or a communication tool; it deserved to be appreciated from the perspective of art. Therefore the process of English learning should be a enjoyable experience rather than just painful struggling.

Hello! I’m napoti from Iwate university, Japen. I like your story, too. I also t hink that learning English with no stress is good, important and effective. If students made a mistake and teacher scolded about it, maybe the students doesn’t become enthusiastic, I think. Besides, if teacher teach English using only textbooks, maybe students will get boring. So I think your great experience, for example, played songs your teacher loved and shared her life with students in English without any question, asked to keep English journals is very imoirtant and good things to learn and teach English.

I think that it’s very important to learn language with interest and fun. In my case, my English class of my high school was very silent and bore, because we were had study mainly grammer . So, I enjoy now active English class.

I’m a student studying how to teach English in Iwate, Japan.
I like your story. Your English teacher in senior high is wonderful teacher!
I also think, teacher should bring out the student’s interests for English, not force them to stydy English. We start to learn something, when we have interests for them.

I think really you are lucky person.Becouse in Japan, I think many of students learn language obligatory. I like learnig foreign language and interested in it, but all of students are not so. becouse many of English class of Japan are bored. Most of class contents are memorization of word and grammar, reading. so, the students who like this style enjoy class, but other students don’t.

I read your story and felt I want to take Ms.Ann’s class. They sounds very enjoyful and valuable. In most of Japanese senior high school, teachers hardly sing English songs and share themselves lifes. They only do teach grammer.

I think you can be wonderful teacher!! The experiences will support you to be teacher.
